Oxford Lumber Company, Incorporated was founded in 1958 by Charles W. Newman, who moved from Kentucky to Oxford, Alabama, with a vision of providing quality lumber, building materials, and exceptional customer service. Using his savings, he opened a small lumber and building materials business at the corner of 4th Street and Barry Street, laying the foundation for what would become one of East Alabama's most trusted names in home improvement.
Mr. Newman remained dedicated to serving customers until his passing in 1999, while his wife, Mrs. Newman, a Registered Nurse, joined the business shortly after it was founded and remained actively involved until her passing in 2024.
Built on Customer Service
From the beginning, Charles Newman believed that customers always came first. Every opportunity to grow was reinvested back into the business through expanded inventory, improved facilities, and better service.
In 1966, Oxford Lumber joined Ace Hardware, allowing the company to offer an even broader selection of products while maintaining the friendly, local service customers had come to expect.
Today, that same commitment continues through knowledgeable employees who take pride in helping customers find the right solution for every project—whether it's carrying purchases to a vehicle, answering technical questions, or helping plan an entire construction project.

What began as a single lumber yard in Oxford has grown into a family of five locally owned Ace Hardware locations serving communities across East Alabama.
Over the years, Oxford Lumber has expanded while remaining committed to the same values of exceptional customer service, knowledgeable employees, and quality products.

Today, we're proud to serve customers across five Alabama communities while carrying forward the customer-first philosophy established by Charles W. Newman in 1958. Following his father's passing in 1999, Bill Newman became President of Oxford Lumber and continues to lead the company today.

All 5 locations feature Ace Hardware as well as a full line of lumber and building materials. Oxford Lumber has an outside sales team, offers deliveries, free estimates, and many more services.
Oxford Lumber is located at 1400 Barry Street- at the corner of Highway 78 West and Barry Street.
Store hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am – 6:00pm and on Saturday, 7:00am – 5:00pm.
