“Mr. Charlie” and Mildred Newman started Bill off in the family business in 1958. Bill went away to school but returned in 1986 and began to run the family business when his dad passed away in 1999. Bill has a passion for the lumber business but more importantly, he has a passion for the relationships with people – Oxford Lumber’s staff, customers and his local community. Bill has been active in the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, local high school and intramural sports, the Greater Calhoun County Home Builders Association and his church. Instead of heading into his office each morning, Bill works in the hardware store for a while, greeting longtime customers as well as new customers. Whether the customers are big or little, spending a lot or just needing a light bulb, they are all treated in the same respectful way. Bill and his family reside in Oxford.

 Mildred Newman
Accounting
Mrs. Newman was here close to the start of Oxford Lumber and is still active in the daily affairs of the business serving as corporation secretary / treasurer. Before helping found Oxford Lumber, Mrs. Newman was a registered nurse. Just as she learned in the nursing profession to care for people, she cares for Oxford Lumber just as she would have one of her patients. Mrs. Newman resides in Oxford.

Merle came to Oxford Lumber in 1992 and never left. Along with a full contractor/customer base that he is personally responsible for, Merle manages Oxford Lumber’s team of three outside salesmen along with the company’s inside contractor sales team and the showroom manager. Merle has a long history of working hard to make sure that the contractors and builders are taken good care of and that they have the resources they need to do their job efficiently and quickly. In 1975, at age 16, Mike began his career in building material sales and since 1993 he has hit the road for Oxford Lumber. You can find him early every morning loading his personal truck with supplies for his customers. Mike really likes to roll up his sleeves and become part of his customer’s team. Whether it’s discussing the latest in new products, current pricing, or simply staying ahead of their material needs, Mike takes great pride in the confidence of his customers – and it shows. Mark is the newest member of the contractor sales team. Mark came to Oxford Lumber in 2005 after the building supply company he was working with in Anniston closed its doors. Like Steve, Mark usually needs two hands to hold his regular phone and cell phone and another two hands to do the writing. Builders and contractors alike know that Mark can be relied on to get their orders right and delivered to them on time. Mark and his family reside in Weaver.

Rick decided to call Oxford Lumber home in 1998 and he’s never left. As showroom manager, Rick is the primary point of contact when contractors, builders or homeowners need assistance in picking out doors, windows, locks and many other details of their home. Rick has had many homeowners come in with a special request that requires much research to find. Often, they have seen something on TV or somewhere and Rick brings the item they are looking for to Oxford Lumber. Tim originally came to Oxford Lumber as an inside store salesman in January of 2007. After learning his way around the store and displaying the leadership skills necessary to work in shipping/receiving, he was promoted to shipping/receiving co-manager earlier this year. Tim is a hands-on manager and can be seen regularly in the yard area as he is preparing to send out drivers to their destination or working with the yard crew to ensure that orders are being built correctly and on time. Rolando (or as most people call him “Ro”) originally came to Oxford Lumber in 2005 as shipping/receiving manager. Right in the middle of a successful tenure in this position he was called into full time ministry for a brand new church, Bridgeway Christian Center in Anniston. Once Bridgeway was established, Ro was able to continue to pastor his church and come back to Oxford Lumber full time as co-manager in the shipping/receiving department earlier this year. Ro and his co-manager are responsible for every order that is shipped from Oxford Lumber on a daily basis. If you are a contractor, builder, homeowner or do-it-yourselfer and have ever received an order from Oxford Lumber, Ro or his co-manager were responsible for getting it to your jobsite. Ronnie came to Oxford Lumber in October 2009. Ronnie has a strong retail background in food service and floor coverings. Ronnie is an asset to the Oxford Lumber team because of his people skills, customer service background and from being a long time do-it-yourselfer. Ronnie's responsibility is being the operations manager for the Oxford store including store staffing, inventory, customer service and display. Ronnie lives in Oxford with his wife and two children. Danny came to Oxford Lumber to work for “Mr. Charlie” right out of high school in 1976 working the sales floor. After about 10 years at Oxford Lumber, Danny left for a few years and then returned in 1990 after realizing that he really should never have left. His talents were recognized and as he grew with the company, he was given more responsibilities. Currently, Danny is the store manager and is responsible for all the operations of the store from the time the customer comes into the store until he/she finishes shopping and heads out the door. Danny’s customer services skills are second to none and customers love his great attitude and smile that is ever present. Danny and his family reside in Anniston.

Jeff started as an outside salesman at Oxford Lumber in 1996. After a successful career in this area of the company, his talents were recognized and he was promoted to operations manager for all four locations and handled human resources for a while. Jeff fights hard to insure that vendors provide Oxford Lumber with the very best pricing and those savings are passed along to the customers. Jeff is always looking for a “good deal” and when found passes the info along to the customers. As operations manager, Jeff in involved in all areas of the company. Greg joined the Oxford Lumber team as their first full time HR/Training Manager in 2004. Greg had many years of HR and training experience prior to joining Oxford Lumber. Greg is responsible for making sure that the staffs at Oxford Lumber, Talladega Home Center, Roanoke Home Center and Jacksonville Home Center are adequately trained in their jobs to continue to offer the great service that Oxford Lumber is known for. Receptionist
Melinda started at Oxford Lumber as a temp employee in 2002 and Oxford Lumber soon discovered that she did not need to be a temp employee but should join the company full time. From that point until today, Melinda is the smile behind the voice that answers so many of the phone calls that come into Oxford Lumber every day. Along with her receptionist duties, Melinda handles other office duties. Melinda and her family reside in Anniston.

Stephen has been working on the company’s finances since he arrived in 2004. Stephen divides his time between Oxford Lumber, Talladega Ace Home Center and Jacksonville Home Center. While others within the company order merchandise and spend money, Stephen is responsible to make sure all the accounts are correct and in good accounting order. Stephen is diligent and responsible in his job. Stephen and his family reside in Alexandria.
